Whether you’re starting your journey in Public Transport or bringing years of driving experience with you, Swan Transit’s Bus Driver Ready Program is designed to get you road-ready with confidence.

This flexible program supports new-generation drivers looking to build a long-term career in public transport, as well as experienced drivers with a HR or Above licence who may be seeking a career change into the public transport industry. With Structured training, experienced instructors, and real-world route exposure, you’ll gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to succeed behind the wheels.

What are the courses?

Bus Driver Ready Program:
This flexible program supports new-generation drivers looking to build a long-term career in public transport, as well as experienced drivers with a MR or above licence who may be seeking a career change into the public transport industry.

Women Behind the Wheel Program :
Provides the training, support, and confidence for women to succeed—no experience necessary.

Regional Upskilling Program:
Upskill from your C class licence and take the wheel of a rewarding new career with our professional bus driver training program, proudly supporting regional communities across Kalgoorlie, Denmark, Albany, Bunbury and Busselton.

How long is the training?

Training duration varies based on experience and individual competency. Transit Academy students receive comprehensive training that combines classroom‑based learning with on‑road experience. Drivers upgrading their licence will travel with a buddy driver for as long as needed, until they are confident and assessed as competent by our highly qualified trainers.

What are the requirements for a bus driver role?
  • Have a normal drivers licence (C class licence) or MR licence
  • Have full working rights in Australia, or Permanent resident of Australia, or citizen of Australia or New Zealand
  • Hold an unrestricted Australian Driver’s Licence
  • Prepared to work varying shifts
  • Be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical examination with a company medical service
  • Have a good driving record
