Our Beyond the Tracks Charter Bus Driver Program is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to safety and efficiently provide substitute bus services during rail disruption. This program can be tailored to experienced bus drivers, getting them on the road quicker and also in experienced drivers, looking to shift gear into a new career.

What are the courses?

Bus Driver Ready Program:
For individuals with no prior bus driving experience and those upgrading from a regular driver's licence. Gain the essential skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to navigate the roads safely.

Accelerated Bus Driving Program:
Tailor-made for experienced drivers holding a HR Licence. Cruise through the basics and dive straight into advanced techniques.

How long is the training?

Training goes for six weeks. Transit Academy students receive comprehensive training which includes classroom-based learning and on the road training. Drivers upgrading their licence will travel with a buddy until they are comfortable and are deemed competent by highly qualified trainers.

What are the requirements for a bus driver role?

Have a normal car licence HR licence
Permanent resident of Australia or citizen of Australia or New Zealand
Hold an unrestricted Australian Driver’s Licence for at least 12 months within the last 24 months
Prepared to work varying shifts
Be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical examination with a company medical service
Have a good driving record

Complete NSW Bus Driver Authority course

Start Traineeship

Practice MR Driver Knowledge Check

Receive Bus Driver Authority
Complete license upgrade training
Sign payroll documentation

Week 4

Traineeship

Attend classroom training
Complete driver training
Undertake on-road mentor and buddy training (1-2 weeks)
